Graduated Mother of Pearl Necklace
Mother of pearl is a fascinating material. Cut from the shell of pearl making oysters, this has the iridescence of pearls, but localized to more streaks on a plain background. Call it old-fashioned feminine elegance, call it the stone of serenity, mother of pearl is a lovely thing. The natural material is a warm champagne brown with the lighter flashes that looks great with gold and other warm earthy colors. This material can be carefully bleached to make a white background that retains the iridescent sheen that looks great with silver and other cool tones. Centuries old tradition has associated mother of pearl with faith, charity and innocence and provides a reflection of self aiding in introspection.
The necklace is approximately 18 inches long with small 3mm round beads at the clasp, graduating to a large 11mm round bead at the center.
